• 16 cups of water, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups Arm & Hammer “Washing” Soda*
  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1/2 cup Dr. Brenner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap (fragrance of your choice optional or add an essential oil)
  • White Vinegar
  1. Bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in Washing Soda, Borax and liquid Castile Soap until dissolved.
  2. Stir in remaining 8 cups water and allow to cool.
  3. Pour cooled dishwasher soap into containers of your choice. It will “gell” up over next 24 hours.
  4. {Optional}: Add essential oil once soap has cooled (i.e. lemon, tea tree oil).
Before use:
Give dishwasher detergent a good shake to make sure everything is mixed well and to make it easy to pour out.
  • Add 1 Tablespoon of Detergent to “detergent” dispenser (experiment w/ the amount needed)
  • Add 1-2 Tablespoons of Vinegar to “rinse aid” compartment
* Liquid detergent recipe makes 1 gallon.
* Arm & Hammer “Super Washing Soda”..  Baking Soda or Detergent will not work.  It must be sodium carbonate.
** According to the Choosing Simplicity Blog, this batch should last about 6-months running the dishwasher at least once a day and several times a week twice.
